On-target Lady Rams trump Texas A&M-Texarkana

Taylor Ross earned her fourth career hat-trick

Box Score FORT WORTH – It's not often a team gets out-shot and wins 6-0. That's exactly how Texas Wesleyan cleaned up Thursday afternoon at Martin Field, having no trouble with the Texas A&M-Texarkana Eagles.

Fast starts continued to help Texas Wesleyan (5-1) in this match. Two goals in the first four minutes kept the Eagles (0-4) on their heels – the fifth game this season the Lady Rams have scored in the first ten minutes. For the third time this season, it was Tameir Grosvenor, who moved up to the No. 4 spot in the NAIA with 11 goals in 2018.

Grosvenor, in the second minute, received a pretty pass from Taylor Ross for the easy knock-in. Her second goal in the 25th minute had a higher degree of difficulty, but was rifled high and away in the top left-hand corner to put the Lady Rams up 3-0.

Grosvenor's had the stat-heavy season, but it was Taylor Ross' night. After scoring only one goal in the team's first five games, Ross earned a hat-trick with goals in the 4th, 31st and 52nd minutes, aggressive and brilliant with the ball at her feet. The junior is trying to make it three-straight seasons with double-digit goals, 14 and 11 in her freshman and sophomore years, respectively. It was the fourth hat-trick of her career adding to the list of Paul Quinn (Sept. 19, 2016), Southwestern Christian (Nov. 4, 2016) and Jarvis Christian (Sept. 1, 2017).

The most SportsCenter worthy goal came from Kristen Carter. Carter's footwork shook a shall-not-be-named Eagle defender four different times on her way to a one-on-one look against Eagles goalkeeper Tinotenda Charuma, a simple strike.

Carter's theatrics and Ross' boost lifted a front-line that struggled to find space against Friends University last week. The midfield played quicker with Sasha Trejo playing a bit farther back and senior leadership from Cheyanne Moore, Haley Balthrop and Katie Baugh really showed, defensively.

"Another great start to the game tonight," said Head Coach Josh Gibbs. "I'm very happy with the continued effort to improve from each player. They are doing much better at not letting the level drop off after an early lead. I hope we can rest up and continue to improve with LSU-Shreveport on Saturday."

RAMBLINGS:
For the third time in four seasons, Texas Wesleyan women's soccer has started a season winning five of its first six games, out-scoring their opponents in those three stretches a whopping 94-24.

WHAT'S NEXT:
LSU-Shreveport is indeed the next test – a quick two-day turnaround. Shreveport is 1-4, losing 2-0 to the Lady Rams' fellow Sooner Athletic Conference foe University of Science and Arts earlier this year.
