Box Score FORT WORTH, TX - It wasn't a 10-2 victory or an 11-0 win like Texas Wesleyan Women's Soccer (3-3) has been able to get on Paul Quinn (2-2) in recent years, but the Lady Rams had no issues collecting their third victory of the 2019 season with a 4-1 triumph over the Tigers.
The Lady Rams cruised, out-shooting Paul Quinn an astounding 35-3, including 16-0 in the second half. Despite the mismatch, the Tigers didn't back down and attempted to - sometimes successfully - match the Rams physicality. Goalkeepers Alexya Soto and Vanessa Vasquez combined for 12 saves, at times stunning Texas Wesleyan who time and time again looked to have a ball in the back of the net.
But in the small victories for the Tigers, Texas Wesleyan controlled the ball over 60% of the game and almost exclusively held the ball on their side of the field, continuing to tinker with different combinations of players in the midfield and offensively to go along with the steady back line core of
Lindsey Beckrich,
Savannah Hart and
Sierra Reich.
Tameir Grosvenor earned her sixth and seventh goals of the season in the 28th and 45th minutes - all scoring came in the first half.
Taylor Ross assisted the former. In the 32nd minute, Ross might as well have found Grosvenor for what would have been her second goal but on the backend of the flip down the right side, Savannah Barron tapped the ball in for good measure as it was drifting from right to left. Ross added a score in the 34th minute unassisted as she bobbed and weaved past Soto and another Tiger defender for the easy - or so she made it look - put-away.
It's the fifth-consecutive season the Rams have gotten off 35 shots against a different opponent. In 2015, TXWES shot 36 times in a 6-1 win over Southwest (New Mexico). In 2016, 36 shots helped the Lady Rams defeat Bacone 7-0. The following season, Texas Wesleyan rocketed 46 shots past Jarvis Christian in a 13-0 blowout and last season Texas College was the newest victim - 42 shots for Fort Worth's soccer stars in a 9-1 rout.
The Lady Rams will face LSU-Shreveport squad on Tuesday September 17 at 5 p.m. at Martin Field in their next contest. Don't let the 1-5 record of the Pilots fool you. LSUS has played a brutal schedule in non-conference, already facing No. 1 William Carey, No. 23 Mobile (the Lady Rams also played and lost to both ranked teams), No. 13 John Brown, No. 19 University of Science and Arts-Oklahoma and NCAA Division II's University of Texas at Tyler.Â
