Box Score FORT WORTH, TX - Texas Wesleyan Women's Soccer (4-3) got the performance they've been waiting for Tuesday night at Martin Field. The complete performance was put together in the form of a 4-0 triumph over LSU-Shreveport (1-6) who was unable to contain
Tameir Grosvenor (two goals, two assists),
Savanna Barron,
Taylor Ross and the rest of the Lady Rams powerful offensive attack.
"We got a much-needed performance tonight," said Head Coach
Josh Gibbs. "The players have been really working hard to figure things out and get on the same page - all the credit goes to them."
TXWES owned possession and momentum early and often. Grosvenor, now a junior, sits 20 goals away from passing Jessica Carrion for most career goals (Grosvenor now has 55) and she was unstoppable.
Taylor Ross' high motor and intensity worked wonders on the offensive and defensive side of the ball, connecting with Grosvenor in the 9th minute off a slick touch pass in the box. Grosvenor finished smoothly with a shot swinging from right to left rolling in. Lindsey Bechrich put an incredible ball at Grosvenor's right foot off a foul in the 23rd minute, another top ten play nominee of the season.
The Lady Rams were clicking like they hadn't all season, flashing the units potential for a deep postseason run.
"They have fought through a pretty tough start to their season to find their way," Gibbs said. "I'm very proud of them. We all needed a game like tonight and I hope we can build off of it in a tough final non-conference game Thursday."
It was de ja vu in the second half for the Pilots. In the 64th minute, Grosvenor found
Savanna Barron for a score and the two connected on nearly identical plays 90 seconds later. The latter was Barron's sixth goal of the season, Grosvenor's fifth assist. The pair combined to take 20 of the team's 26 shots, out-shooting LSU-Shreveport 26-14. Goalkeeper
Christy Zwart had seven saves, but none were dangerous enough to make her sweat.
Grosvenor's nine goals ranks eighth in the nation while the team's 23 goals is 21st best in the NAIA and the 17 assists ranks 23rd. The matchup was a complete role reversal from 2018, after the Lady Rams were out-shot 27-8 and lost in Shreveport last season 3-0. It was the most lopsided victory against the Pilots in six tries.
The Lady Rams will face Houston-Victoria Thursday at 5 p.m. Another Red River Athletic Conference opponent, Victoria's most impressive victory comes in the form of a 1-0 win over McPherson (who the Rams defeated 3-1 earlier this season). The Jaguars have recorded losses to a pair of upper-echelon teams in the Sooner Athletic Conference - Oklahoma City 3-0 and the University of Science and Arts-Oklahoma 5-0.Â
