Oklahoma City-- The Texas Wesleyan women's wrestling team captured it's first SAC title in program history with a total team score of 151.5 points on Saturday afternoon at Abe Lemons Arena. 10 Lady Rams finished in the top 3 of their respective weight classes. Head coach
Ray Bedford was named coach of the year.Â
Junior
Madison Brown went 3-1 on her way to finishing second place in the 101 lb. weight class. Brown finished with a match won by tech fall, a match won by a fall-over, and a match won by decision before falling in the championship round against Nina Pham (Wayland Baptist.)
Jasmin Godinez finished second in the 109 lb. weight class. Godinez won by tech-fall in the semifinal and lost in the 1st place match by a tech-fall against Ovieonce Ray (Wayland Baptist.)
Camille Fournier captured first place in the 116 lb. weight class by going a perfect 3-0 on the afternoon. Fournier defeated Emma De Brum (Lyon College) by a tech-fall.
Freshman
Devin Patton dominated the 123 lb. weight class with a perfect 2-0 record on the afternoon. Patton claimed first place and was named outstanding wrestler of the tournament and freshman of the year.
Lexi Basham finished first in the 130 match with a win by a 12-4 decision over De'anna Price (WBU.)
Mea Mohler earned a third place finish and scored 10.5 points.Â
Maryellen Lafferty finished second place in the 143 lb. weight class. Lafferty earned 14 points in 3 matches.
Leilani Hernandez won the quarterfinal and semifinal matches of the 155 lb. weight class by fall-overs. Hernandez lost by a fall-over in the championship round.
Aalyah Villareal finished in third place of the 170 lb. weight class. Villareal scored 11 points.
Brittyn Corbishley earned a first place finish in the 170 lb. weight class with a perfect 4-0 record on the afternoon. Corbishley scored a team-high 20 points.
TXWES finished with 12 pins, 5 tech-falls, and 25 total wins as a team. The Lady Rams will compete in the NAIA Women's Wrestling National Invitational on Friday, March 11 and Saturday, March 12.
