Makena Junkin, a junior from Burleson, Texas, set a Texas Wesleyan University record with a final-round score of 64 to win the Texas Intercollegiate and earned the NAIA Women's Golfer of the Week award on Sept. 17, 2025.
Junkin was even par through the first 36 holes, carding back-to-back 72s at Hawks Creek Golf Club in Fort Worth, trailing a two-way tie for first by one stroke. In the final round, she surged ahead with an 8-under-par 64, finishing the 54-hole event bogey-free over her last 29 holes. Her balanced final round included a 32 on both the front and back nines, with birdies on holes three, five, seven, and a streak of four consecutive birdies from holes nine through 12. She sealed her performance with a birdie on the par-4 15th.
Junkin won the tournament by three strokes over Miah Luong of Science and Arts (Okla.), with teammate Natalie Miksovska finishing six strokes back. The trio were the only players in the field to finish under par.
