FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s soccer team took a convincing 5-0 win over the University of Houston-Victoria (1-5) at Martin Field Friday night. The shutout was the 13th of junior goalkeeper Katy Houchin's career, marking a new Texas Wesleyan record.

The Rams got their five goals from four different players, two of them freshmen.

Jodi Blowers opened the door with a booming free kick in the 31st minute. Although the Rams outshot the Jaguars 12-2 in the first frame, they led just 1-0 at the break.

In the second half, Blowers took a corner kick in the 55th minute, and Kayla Mason connected with a header. UHV’s Sarah Saldivar made the save, but Karissa Olson was there to put the rebound in for her first collegiate goal. Olson did not have to wait long for her second goal.   The freshman headed in a cross from Samantha McGilvra in the 60th minute.

In the 71st minute Blowers took another corner kick and connected with Jessica Wattonfor the Rams’ fourth goal. In the 76th minute, freshman Katie Fruit scored on an assist from Watton.

“It was great to see us finish so well,” said Head Coach Josh Gibbs, “and great to get three goals from our freshman. Jodi Blowers was outstanding today. That was as complete a game from an individual as I’ve seen here.”

Texas Wesleyan outshot Houston-Victoria 28-3 in the game. Houchin did not need a save to hold the shutout. Saldivar and Maria Pina combined to make nine saves for UHV.

The Lady Rams will return to action on Tuesday, when they travel to Kerrville, TX, to take on Schreiner University. That game is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start.
