Rams Crush Crusaders

IRVING, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (25-13) ran away with a 12-1 win at the University of Dallas (18-8) on Wednesday. The game matched the largest margin of victory for the Rams this season.
 
The Rams got the scoring started with a sac fly from Justin Padron and an RBI single from Joseph Lassiter in the second inning. Lassiter added a sac fly in the fourth inning.
 
Texas Wesleyan batted around in the sixth inning. Two Crusader errors and back-to-back doubles from Christian Soberanes and Patrick Melton led to a four-run rally that pushed the score to 7-0.
 
UD scored its lone run in the bottom of the sixth inning. In the ninth, the Rams batted around again, scoring five more runs on six hits, including doubles from Taylor Jockers and Vincent Winter.
 
In total, the Rams collected 13 hits, including five doubles. Seven Texas Wesleyan pitchers limited the Crusaders to seven hits while striking out eight. Drew Cavender started the contest with two scoreless innings. Kyle Reed (1-0) was credited with the win after allowing one run on three hits in 2.2 innings of relief work.
 
Soberanes, Justin Snider, and Padron all went 2-for-4 at the plate, while Jockers added two hits in five trips to the plate.
 
The Rams will return to action this weekend when they host Bacone College in a three-game Red River Athletic Conference series. Saturday’s doubleheader is scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. start at LaGrave Field with Sundays finale scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. first pitch at Sycamore Park.
